On 12 March 2019 two of Germany’s top diplomats Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger, Chairman of the Munich Security Conference, and Ambassador Klaus Scharioth, Dean of the Mercator Fellowship on International Affairs, took up the invitation of the Robert Bosch Academy and Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow Julianne Smith to present and discuss their respective stance on the need of a National Security Council for Germany. In the debate, the three panelists scrutinized the merits as well as the deficits of a National Security Council for German foreign policy.
