"The World at War: What is the future of global governance amidst diplomatic fluidity?"
The world is at war: Today's conflicts span the globe, are interconnected, involve great powers, and are intractable. But the patterns of rivalries unfolding today are not reminiscent of the hard alliances of the 19th and 20th centuries. Instead, multi-alignment – the strategy of choosing many mutually beneficial relationships rather than one superpower patron – is the new diplomatic norm.
Even as today's conflicts eventually resolve themselves, multi-alignment will persist as power diffuses and anchor states build new coalitions, institutions, and networks around their interests. What is the future of global governance amidst this unending diplomatic fluidity?
