The U.S. election is over and Joe Biden will be the next president of the United States. This will point the way not only for the country itself but also for the future of transatlantic relations and international cooperation as a whole. The institutions and norms that underpinned international order and cooperation since World War II have been under assault, in recent years. Most notably, U.S. President Donald Trump’s destructive rhetoric and actions have deeply unsettled traditional U.S. allies.
This event aims to reflect on the results of the U.S. election and to address the following questions: With Joe Biden as the new president, can Europe take a deep breath? Will the pre-Trump America come back? What will the new administration expect from Europe? What implications will the next administration have for Asia and Europe's near abroad?
