Today’s societies in general and philanthropic organizations specifically find themselves confronted with a complexity of cultural and social problems greater than ever. At the same time, dealing with those problems is connected to specific cultural traditions, religious norms, political histories and economic environments in each country. Solutions for such problems thus have to be based on multidisciplinary approaches as well as local cultures and norms.

Together with our Fellow Atallah Kuttab and delegates from the Arab region, Africa, China, Latin America, Russia, Turkey, USA and various European countries, we would like to spend an evening debate reflecting on the following key questions: What do philanthropy organizations contribute to their country? Which roles have philanthropy organizations played over time? What distinctive roles, if any, do they fill today? Are new roles for philanthropy organizations emerging and how do they interact with the government and the private sector?

In a preceding workshop, distinguished experts of philanthropy will identify ways to bridge philanthropic approaches especially to those in the Arab region and use their outcomes to contribute to our evening debate.

By invitation only.
