About

The ongoing refugee crisis has revealed real and considerable problems of the European Union. Internally, the vision of the EU as an entity based on shared values has failed. The last months have shown that national interests have prevailed over solidarity. Externally, Europe’s attitude and role as a “soft power” player proved to be inadequate when faced with real war. The result is a continent being unable to influence developments in its own neighborhood but yet suffering their consequences.

Together with our Richard von Weizsäcker Fellows we will spend an interactive Lunch Talk discussing the failures of the European Union in the refugee crisis as well as possible measures to strengthen the European solidarity idea and the political effectiveness of its actions.

Please note that the event will be held in English.
