Anna Diamantopoulou is the President of the Athens-based “DIKTIO” Network for Reform in Greece and Europe. She was trained as a civil engineer and completed graduate studies in regional development. In 1999, she was appointed European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, a position she held until 2004. Highlights of her tenure as Commissioner include the adoption of the Agenda for Social Policy, the completion and implementation of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), an agreement with the private sector on a white paper and program for Corporate Social Responsibility, as well as the institutionalization of EU-wide guidelines on the European Employment Strategy (EES).
Anna Diamantopoulou remains active in European affairs. She is a Presidium Member of the Brussels-based think tank Friends of Europe, which fosters new thinking on European issues, and a Steering Committee Member of the Notre Europe-Jaques Delors Institute, the Paris-based think tank dedicated to fostering European integration and unity.
Anna Diamantopoulou had been a member of the Greek Parliament for eleven years. From 2009 until March 2012, she served as Minister of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs, and subsequently as Minister of Development, Competitiveness and Shipping until May 2012.
She was a Fisher Family Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School in 2012, where she lectured on European affairs, and a Distinguished Scholar at Singapore’s Lee Kuan School of Public Policy in 2015.
