About the event

The election of the new Trudeau government in Canada has brought a significant shift in official policy with Canada now planning to intake further thousands of Syrian refugees by the end of this year. Moreover, Prime Minister Trudeau has stated on many occasions that the commitment to diversity and multiculturalism will be a touchstone of Canada’s approach to the world. In this, he rather differs from German politics. Most recently, also German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that multiculturalism does not work. What is the Canadian view on identity and from whence does it derive its sense of inclusiveness? How have the Canadians over the last several decades maintained and in fact enhanced a positive attitude to immigration and multiculturalism?

Together with our Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow Lloyd Axworthy, we will spend an interactive Lunch Talk discussing the Canadian commitment to a non-assimilation policy of multiculturalism and possibilities to replicate successful policy approaches and projects.

Please note that the event will be held in English.

Registration for this event is closed.
