The Robert Bosch Academy established a new fellowship in Berlin as part of the Brookings - Robert Bosch Foundation Transatlantic Initiative (BBTI). Designed as a collaboration between the Robert Bosch Stiftung and The Brookings Institution, the initiative aims to build up and expand resilient networks and transatlantic activities by analyzing and working on transatlantic relations and social cohesion in Europe and the United States. The residencies of the fellows at the Robert Bosch Academy constitute an integral part of the BBTI.

New BBTI Fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy: Frank A. Rose

Frank A. Rose stays at the Robert Bosch Academy from August to December 2019. He is a senior fellow for security and strategy in the Foreign Policy program at the Brookings Institution. His current research focuses on the future of arms control, deterrence, and strategic stability: “With the return of competition between NATO and Russia and the demise of the US-Russia strategic stability framework, these issues are of importance to Europe and to Germany in particular.”

During his fellowship, Frank A. Rose examines the impact of the Trump administration’s nuclear weapons and arms control policies on Germany’s ability to maintain a domestic political consensus in favor of NATO nuclear policy. Additionally, he explores the impact of the decline of the U.S.-Russia strategic stability framework – especially the demise of the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty – on German security policy.

Sharing expertise and perspectives

For each of the fellows, the Robert Bosch Academy organizes an individual meeting and event program in order to foster engagement with German and European decision-makers. Furthermore, as one out of a community of eight fellows currently working at the Academy, Frank A. Rose takes part in a comprehensive program that gives insights into German history, politics, economy, and society.

Frank A. Rose is the second BBTI Fellow. He succeeds Ted Piccone who worked on transatlantic cooperation issues and the promotion of global democracy and human rights.
