by Michael Lessac
South Africa, 2014, 54 min

"A Snake Gives Birth to a Snake" follows a diverse group of South African actors as they tour global war-torn regions to share their country's experience with reconciliation. As they ignite a dialogue among people with raw memories of atrocity, the actors find they must confront once again their homeland's complicated and violent past and question their own capacity for healing and forgiveness.

About

The Robert Bosch Academy established the format Film Screening @Academy to debate global challenges on the basis of selected films which provide special insights and analyses of current and future socio-political issues. The upcoming event is part of a series of film screenings in cooperation with and as a tribute to the foundation’s long lasting cooperation with Mirsad Purivatra, Director of the Sarajevo Film Festival and former Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy. The series will continue with further screenings and debates in cooperation with our new Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow Ally Derks, founder and longtime director of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).

Global Arts Corps brings together performing artists from opposite sides of countries’ cultural, religious and racial divides to create original theatre productions that encourage dialogue and create a space for people to hear the stories of those they have learned to fear, disdain, and hate. The stage becomes a laboratory for conflict prevention and reconciliation.
